World Nursery Rhyme Week in Nursery

17th Nov 2023
This week we joined thousands of others around the world by taking part in World Nursery Rhyme Week.  The aim of this is to focus on a new rhyme each day.  Nursery rhymes are a vital component in Early Years as they promote language development, develop literacy and numeracy skills, encourage creativity and help the children to develop socially and emotionally.  The five rhymes chosen by the organisation this year are Jack and Jill, Hickory Dickory Dock, Row, Row, Row your Boat, Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes and The Wheels on the Bus.  We had lots of fun with each of these rhymes.  We had an activity to go along with each day.  We sequenced the order of Jack and Jill at mat time. We coloured in our own mice and clocks.  We had to match up the words to the correct body parts.  We put lots of boats in the water tray and loved pretending we were on a boat.  We learnt lots of actions for The Wheels on the Bus and were really good at remembering them all!  We had a vote on Friday to see which rhyme was our favourite and although all of them got votes, the clear winner was The Wheels on the Bus! We have really enjoyed our week and the boys and girls got special certificates for all their hard work. Well done boys and girls!
