20th May 2020

For the third day in a row we have a Birthday. This time is the turn of Tom (Nursery) who celebrates his 4th birthday today. Happy Birthday Tom from all of us in St Mary’s and in particular from Mrs Birt and Mrs Denvir in the Nursery Unit.

We have had a few people walking past the school today putting up their ribbons. Daithi (P5) and Callie (Nursery) got in touch to say they really enjoyed going to the school to tie their ribbons on the school railings. They also mentioned that they are missing their teachers and of all their friends too. Ethan (P7) and Chloe (P7), as part of their P7 relay challenge, took time to stop and put their ribbons on the railings.  If you are unable to tie a ribbon to the school railings you are welcome to tie anything colourful. All we ask is that there are no emblems and that the only writing is messages of kindness.

We all know that many of our pupils are very considerate and during this week of Kindness many are doing different things for others. Daithi (P5) is no different and during this Mental Health Week Daithi wanted to do something to help others and so he decided that he would try to raise some money for Aware NI. AWARE is the depression charity for Northern Ireland - and the only charity working exclusively for people with depression and bipolar disorder. More details at https://www.aware-ni.org

On Sunday Daithi is taking part in a Virtual climb of Slieve Donard whereby he has to walk 360 flights of stairs in his own home. This will be very challenging Daithi but we know you can do it! If you would like to sponsor Daithi for his efforts and help him to raise money for AWARE NI, you can at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/sarah-adler Fantastic idea Daithi and make sure you let us know how you get on.

Leah (Nursery) has been learning about Pirates and she made her own Treasure Chest and took part in her own Rainbow Treasure Hunt. While on her Treasure Hunt, Leah was vey lucky to find a beautiful butterfly and was able to hold it. It is amazing how we are all beginning to appreciate nature and the world around us a little more during this time. Ava (P3) showed her kindness to nature and put some food out for the birds. It is very important Ava that we be kind to nature as well as being kind to each other.

Holly (P3) has been very busy with her school-work learning all about reading the time and doubling and halving numbers. She also said that she cannot wait to get back to Irish Dancing and adding more trophies to her trophy cabinet. I think mum you might need a bigger cabinet when she gets back to it! Belle (P1) has really enjoyed the Jack and the beanstalk theme for P1 this week. She has planted some beans and with her daddy’s help built a wigwam and they are hoping the beans will grow up the wigwam, just like the giant beanstalk. You will definitely have to let us see how it grows over the next few months.

Great work everyone and keep sending your pictures and your acts of “Kindness” to pgilchrist570@c2kni.net
