Waste Free Wednesday
At St Mary’s Primary School, we are committed to fostering a culture of sustainability and environmental responsibility. As part of this commitment, our school’s Eco Council, are excited to announce that they are introducing a ‘Waste Free Wednesday Initiative’ every Wednesday for the remainder of the academic year.
This initiative is designed to help our pupils understand the importance of reducing waste and making thoughtful choices. We kindly ask for your support by ensuring that on this day in particular, your child’s lunch contains as few disposable items as possible. Ideally, their lunchbox should include only items that can be eaten, composted, or recycled.
For some ideas on how to achieve this, we have attached a leaflet with examples of what a ‘Waste Free Lunchbox’ looks like. Simple changes—such as reusable containers, refillable bottles, and avoiding single-use packaging—can make a big difference.
By working together, we hope to empower our pupils with the knowledge and habits that contribute to a cleaner, greener future.
Thank you for supporting your child’s participation in St Mary’s Waste Free Wednesday Initiative. Your involvement helps us take meaningful steps toward reducing waste and protecting our planet.
