Thursday's Brilliant Bakers!

30th Apr 2020

It certainly has been a busy 'Baking week' in the Collins house this week with the girls baking cookies, scones and cupcakes. They had lots of fun reading and writing recipes, measuring their ingredients, mixing, rolling, kneading, baking and decorating their wonderful bakes. Such wonderful memories and great learning too! Ben (P5) says a big 'High Five' to all his friends. He has also been busy finding and weighing out ingredients and enjoyed reading and following the recipe for his delicious home baked scones. He also said that he is enjoying reading David Walliams' 'Demon Dentist' this week. Leah (Nursery) has enjoyed learning about 'The Gingerbread Man' story this week. With a little help from her Mum, she baked lovely gingerbread men. These ones didn't run away and were gobbled up quickly by everyone in the family. Yum,yum! Nicole (P6), Francis (P5) and Lee (P2) baked circular and heart shaped German biscuits. They look amazing! Oscar (P1) baked a big loaf of bread. His Mum said, 'There was a lovely smell of fresh baked bread in the house and that Oscar kept a close eye on the clock which helped him learn about telling the time'. He enjoyed a big slice with jam on top. Wow! Logan (P1) baked some 'Toy story' buns and M&M cookies. Brilliant Logan! Bradan (P6) and his sister Aoibhe (P5) baked a fantastic soda bread loaf and some scones. Great baking folks! Ronan (P5) had just a little bit of help to make chicken fajitas. His Dad really enjoyed them. What a great little chef Ronan! Caitlin (P6) and her little sister Lara also developed their cooking skills when they helped their Mum with a delicious chicken dinner last night. Great helpers! Donal (P6) and his family think that he may be the next 'Paul Hollywood' with his home baked pizza. Delicious Donal! Finally Mrs Gibson was so inspired by the baking theme that she decided to make her own brownies. She tells me it was her first time even attempting to bake something like this and she was actually very surprised at how tasty they were. ...crunchy on the outside and warm and chewy in the middle! I hope this has inspired you to bake even more Mrs Gibson. How wonderful to see so many young chefs and bakers from Saint Mary's Portaferry. Tomorrow is the final day of the 'Bake' part of the school challenge. Continue to send your photos to aoneill392@c2kni.net
