This week our school has been celebrating STEM week! We have been learning all about flight and the science behind it. Today we met up with our friends from Portavogie primary schoolbto design and launch a series of aerodynamic objects.
We started by creating and designing our own rockets out of paper and cardboard. We needed to ensure that the rocket had the right amount of weight, was airtight for launch and aerodynamic to move through the air. We then went outside and used a rocket launcher to pump pressure in to the rocket. When we hit release, we were amazed at how far our rockets travelled! Dawson and Enda’s rocket was the runner up.
After lunch, we then created some parachutes and followed instructions to make a paper aeroplane that could travel up to 100ft! We didn’t beat the record but were impressed how far the paper planes traveled.
Tomorrow, we are looking forward to launching and testing our own home made parachute!
