STEM Experiment about Emergency Vehicles
22nd Oct 2025
Today, the children in Ash Class conducted a STEM experiment linked with our Numeracy, that left everyone buzzing with excitement. The children investigated the rolling speed of cable reels across surfaces with different steepness, from the hall’s flat ground, to various inclines of hills across the school grounds. This hands on experience allowed the children to explore the concepts of speed, friction and ground texture in an engaging way. For Numeracy, we observed and recorded how different inclines affected the reels’ rolling speed. They noted the differences in speed, based on the steepness of the hill and discussed how the ground’s texture also played a crucial role in speed. To connect our experiment to the real world and the ‘People who help us’ topic, the children discussed emergency vehicles and the importance of both speed and safety. At the end of the lesson, the children shared their observations and discoveries about speed, friction and ground textures as a group, showcasing their growing scientific understanding. The experiment not only reinforced their numeracy skills, it also sparked an interest in science and how everyday concepts like speed and friction affect the world around us.
