Space Week - Day 3

3rd Jun 2020

Before we begin our "Space Week' update today, we have another birthday! This time it is the turn of Harrison (P2) who turns 6 today. Happy Birthday Harrison and all of us at St Mary's hope and trust you have a great day celebrating at home.

Today is the third day of our ‘Space Week’ and we hope that you are all enjoying learning all about the moon, the galaxy and the solar system.

We’ve had some more fantastic photos of our boys and girls today. First up we have a painting of Venus by Chloe (P7)! Next, some pictures of Kian and Niamh’s Space Week. They have had a busy few days. It started with the watching of the Space X launch on Saturday and they tell us they caught a glimpse of the International Space Station as it zoomed past Portaferry! They have also been learning all about galaxies and our solar system, watched some videos from the Armagh Planetarium and Observatory about stars and Mars and they stayed up a bit late to stargaze through the SkyView app where they spotted Ursa Minor, Ursa Major, Polaris and found out where in the night sky the planets were. As a reward for all their hard work they enjoyed a Space themed movie night, watching ‘The Martian’ and ate space related party food including Space raiders, flying saucers and Milky Ways! Sounds like a fantastic week so far Kian and Niamh! Well done for all your hard work. I especially love the space themed party treats!

We’ve had even more photos from our boys and girls in Nursery. Bella Grace has been enjoying Space week with some lovely colouring and counting in the sunshine. She dressed up as Buzz Lightyear to watch the Space X launch with her big sister Charlotte (P6) and also made some plaster moulds of rockets, planets and astronauts to paint tomorrow. Her sister Charlotte tells me that she will be making a solar system! Can’t wait to see them girls!

Niadh (Nursery) made her very own rocket after watching the Space X launch. She has also been learning all about the solar system and the Earth’s place in it. Her Mum tells me that today they’re also going to make moon sand too! I just love the details in Niadh’s rocket!

Our final space explorer Leah has made another fantastic rocket, along with a moon. Leah also watched the Peppa Pig ‘Moon episode’ this week and has been singing the moon song all week… it’s even stuck in her Mummy’s head now! Well done to our nursery girls today for all your hard work. I’m sure Mrs. Birt will be very proud!

Well done to all our space explorers today! If you want to get involved, send any pictures to kgreen727@c2kni.net.
