Primary Five enjoyed exploring the concept of Fractions using Smarties as a learning aid. They worked in small groups to count the total number of sweets in each pack. The pupils then sorted the sweets into similar colours and made fractions. It was a very interesting lesson with different numbers of sweets in each pack and the absence of certain colours. By the end of the lesson, the pupils were able to recognise that fractions are part of something and not a whole number. We look forward to progressing onto equivalent fractions, fractions of a set and adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator. Keep watching our class page for more updates.
