Recycled Bird Feeders

3rd Feb 2026

In Ash class today, we took part in an excellent eco-friendly project, blending literacy, numeracy and WAU skills. The children used recycled glass jars to create delightful bird feeders. For literacy, the children sequenced pictures and instructions to understand the process of making a bird feeder. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to work on both writing and talking and listening skills. For numeracy, the children practiced weighing and measuring the ingredients needed.

We mixed gelatine into the birdseed and carefully filled the glass jars. During the project, we discussed the challenges birds face finding food in the Winter and explored how we can help them. The children were actively engaged and throughly enjoyed this bird project. It is a wonderful example of cross-curricular learning, combining creativity, science and care for nature.
