Primary 7 - Earth Day 🌎

26th Apr 2022

As part of Eco Week, this week we have been making an effort to learn how to appreciate and be kinder to our Earth. Today Primary 7 took part in a ‘power down day’. In order to conserve as much electricity as possible, we turned off all of the computers and electrical equipment in our classes.

We were very lucky that it was a lovely day and had the opportunity to take our lessons outside. In the morning, we went out for a ‘Daily Mile’ walk. Today we brought some spring flower hunt pictures, to identify some of the flowers that we see on our walk. We were excited to find a lot of spring flowers. We identified lots of cow parsley on our walk, primrose at the front of the school and lots of cuckoo flowers by the blossom tree.

In the afternoon, we used lots of leaves, grass and petals that we collected to build 3D nature art portraits. There were some masterpieces, including trees, name pictures and even the Windmill Hill!

Finally, a few pupils helped out in our outdoor classroom garden. We weeded and cleared one of the flower beds and spread some wildflower seeds. We hope in time that this will become a bee and butterfly sanctuary. While weeding, we observed some of our current plants. We were able to identify lavender by its perfume smell, lemon grass as it smelt like lemons and some brave pupils even tasted a bit of Rosemary!
