As we begin a new year at Saint Mary’s Portaferry, it is important to continue to flag up the many support systems which we have in place for children and parents with regard to Mathematics & Numeracy. Our teachers and classroom assistants are planning, reviewing, sending home newsletter tips and app suggestions to support the progress every child makes in Maths as they work with them consistently in class but we need your help at home too!
We provide so many parental support systems for use at home in the ‘Home Learning' - ‘Links’ and ‘Curriculum’ sections of our school website, Mathletics pupil and parent resources in the form of interactive games, booklets and videos for all year groups and topics. We use Dynamo Maths and Five Minute Numeracy boxes for those who need additional support. We also use Dynamo Maths in class for our Foundation Stage pupils. All parents can access www.nationalnumeracy.org.uk too to find lots of support systems for all year groups.
This January, please take the time to enjoy some quiet time with your child investigating as many of the support systems mentioned above and in the photographs below. We have invested so much money in our Mathletics program and it contains so many useful resources. We pay for it from our school budget and provide it FREE for home use so please make use of it! We will be monitoring the uptake of Mathletics at home and in school over the next few months for P3-P7. Please ensure your child accesses Mathletics with your support at home, a few times a week. If you have internet issues at home or your child has lost their login details, please let the class teacher know and he/she will ensure extra time on it in school or send home another copy of their login details.
