As part of World Book Day, our P6 and P7 pupils were invited on a “Playdate with a Book” — but with a twist!
Each book was wrapped up for a blind date, meaning the children had no idea what mystery, story, or adventure was waiting for them beneath the cover. All they were given was the number of pages, the first line and the AR level.
After choosing their books the children unwrapped them to reveal their surprise stories. Many ended up selecting books they wouldn’t normally pick, which led to great discussions about how often we judge books by their covers. Without taking a chance, they might never discover how enjoyable a new genre or style can be.
