P6 Shared Education day - Microbit Coding!

26th Jan 2023

Today P6 were joined by their friends from Portavogie Primary to take part in a coding workshop. In the morning we took part in a carousel of activities to teach u all about the basics of coding. We played a game called, 'code your classmate', where we coded a sequence of commands to move our partner. We also used binary code (a sequence of 0s and 1s) to spell out our names and finally, we used Scratch to code and create our own animations.
In the afternoon, Sean from Sentinus delivered a workshop on how to use a computer programme called 'microbit'. We used laptops and microbit software to write a code and a series of commands that we hoped our microbit would recreate. We learned how to code music, to turn lights on and off in a pattern and created a space invaders game. We then plugged in the microbit and downloaded the code and were amazed that such a tiny machine could do so much. We loved playing the game that we created!
P6 had a fantastic day and we are already looking forward to our next Sentinus STEM workshop in February!
