P4 World Book Week Library Visit!🌟📚

2nd Mar 2026

To kick off World Book Week in P4, the class visited Portaferry Library and met the famous illustrator Paul Howard. Paul was the illustrator on their previous P4 class book ‘The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark’. Paul spoke about his job and showed the children his very own original copy of a pastel drawing of Plop; the little barn owl, which he worked on many years ago. The children listened intently as Paul read a passage from the book and then clapped at the descriptions and adjectives about Plop. Then they had an amazingly interactive art lesson with fantastic results! Even Shena and Miss Henning got in on the art act. Paul showed them lots of versions of ‘The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark’ in many different languages which had been printed all over the world and signed the P4 classroom copies too. The boys and girls looked at many other books which Paul illustrated and noticed some wonderful authors like Jill Tomlinson, Martin Waddell and even Joe Wicks among the collection. Mrs O’Neill said a big thank you to Paul and the Portaferry librarians. P4 just loved their visit and left with a few postcards and bookmarks to take home and artwork to display in school. Everyone was truly inspired by this lovely experience. A great start to World Book Week!🌟
