P4 started their World Around Us topic ‘Rescue at Sea’ this week. They enjoyed a cross-curricular approach as they researched the RNLI in preparation for their visit to a workshop in Portaferry Lifeboat Station on 19th September. They also looked at the life of the maritime heroine Grace Darling on the interactive whiteboard and completed pieces about her in their workbooks. They particularly enjoyed whole class work on ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ as they helped solve the dilemma of the greedy seagulls. Throughout all this, they gained an understanding of the difference between fact and fictional reading material, discussed topic words, vocabulary, punctuation and grammar at their level. Finally, they produced some great ‘Lighthouse’ artwork. What a great start to Term 1!🌟
