P4 Teamwork makes the dream work!

1st Dec 2022

P4 had another fabulous week in school. Today they played host to the P4s from Portavogie PS and showed their brilliant manners and kindness throughout a very busy day. This morning everyone took part in a ‘Mad Science’ event with Eureka Seekers and they also completed some beautiful well-being activities in the P4 classroom. After some fun at break and lunchtime, everyone enjoyed working together on lots of games in the hall. Mrs O’Neill, Mrs Hughes and their assistants Sheena and Karen were so proud of how everyone got along and learned so much together.

Yesterday P4 attended a wonderful assembly about NI Water. This fitted in really well with their ‘Wild Weather’ WAU topic and got the children thinking about how important it is to try to reduce water wastage. In class the boys and girls investigated The Water Cycle further and talked about the effects of pollution on our waterway systems.

Maths this week was all about Problem Solving and Subtraction. P4 learned another new strategy for Subtraction called Decomposition which is all about exchanging tens and units to help with calculations.

For Literacy, it has been a case of perfecting sentences using correct nouns, adjectives and punctuation. They used their new Collins Treasure House grammar books to help this area. Spellings were based on the ‘oy’ and ‘oi’ sounds with a lovely scaffolded text piece based on Prince Roy of Troy.

Work on Advent has been a priority this week as P4 examined their Grow in Love stories and prayers. They have also been working so hard learning all their songs and carols in preparation for the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony and all the masses and services in the coming weeks. Well done everyone! You are all superstars.🌟
