P4 STEM week📝✂️✈️🌟

24th Feb 2023

Primary Four had an amazing STEM week. They certainly were the most fantastic scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians as they listened to and followed instructions, planned, designed, made, experimented and reconfigured all their planes, kites and parachutes. They discussed materials, speed, distance and thrust as they predicted whose creation would ‘go the longest distance’ and ‘stay up in the air for the longest time’. They also discussed their results and hypothesised as to why some results were different and how many factors would determine different results. The boys and girls used their number skills so wisely as they measured using centimetres and metres. In a closely fought battle Meabh’s plane flew 1025cm, Eabha’s plane flew 995cm, Teagen’s plane flew 910cm and Oisin’s plane flew 890cm. Mrs O’Neill was just delighted with all the skills shown this week at home and in school. She hopes that they will continue to enjoy their STEM subjects and maybe even consider a career in this area in years to come. The children have a little momento of the week in the shape of a ‘STEM Deep Space Diary’ which they can continue to enjoy at home and use to further increase their knowledge of STEM subjects as well as to develop their curiosity about the world around and beyond them.🌟
