P4 September Synopsis!

29th Sep 2022

What an amazing first month P4 have had in their new class. They have managed to climb the school staircases with enthusiasm and complete so many wonderful pieces of work in the classroom and at home. Well done boys and girls and well done to all their parents too!

They continued with their ‘Procedural Writing’ this week by thinking about and following the exact instructions needed to access Mathletics. They were able to sort the instructions into the correct order and follow them to actually log on and complete some Mathletics challenges. On that note some of the pupils even attained their very first P4 Mathletics certificate having scored over 1000 points at home and in school on their ‘To do, Explore and Play’ sections. Keep up the great work everyone though remember you must have achieved 1000 points or more from Sunday to Sunday for your points to be banked! For general Maths there was lots more ‘Problem Solving’ using the large 100 squares with reading and recording from their Maths textbooks as well as using calculators to check calculations too. The boys and girls are really beginning to think about the organisation and presentation of their work.

Spellings continued this week with a very tricky ‘e’ sound made using ‘e, ie, ee, ea or y’. Again lots of ‘Try sheets’ and scaffolded text were the order of the day.

During ‘Grow in Love’ P4 looked at the map of Palestine and were able to find lots of places that Jesus visited in his lifetime.

For WAU they continued with their ‘Rescue at Sea’ topic examining the buoyancy of lifeboats and thinking about the properties of the waterproof clothing that the RNLI crew wear. As today is ‘Happy Heart Day’ they also listened to a podcast on the c2K Newsdesk about how important it is to eat lots of fruit and vegetables to keep your heart healthy and how important it is to show heartfelt kindness to people, creatures and our world.

This week, the boys and girls took part in our School Council elections. It was a very exciting process from writing the speeches to deciding on which candidates to vote for in a closely fought battle. Well done to everyone for taking part.

In the next few weeks P4 will have the opportunity to embark on our computerised reading comprehension program called ‘Accelerated Reader’. More details will follow soon and in the meantime we look forward to continuing to read and enjoy all kinds of storybooks, fact books, fairytales, atlases and comic books at home and in school too.

Finally, to top off a fantastic month the boys and girls were delighted to meet and chat to Ciara Mageean when she visited our school. What an amazing day and what an inspirational lady!
