P4 Positivity!

13th Oct 2022

Primary Four have been feeling very positive this week. As it was ‘World Mental Health Day’ on Monday, they began by creating an amazing display of work in which they talked about the power of positivity, resilience, team work, facing challenges and being grateful for all that is good in their little lives. Positive quotes, posters, PowerPoints, surveys, poetry, artwork and even a bit of singing and dancing permeated through lots of lessons over the course of the week and we think you will agree that they are just wonderful!

P4 were also delighted to receive their brand new classroom Interactive Whiteboard. It didn’t take long for everyone to get used to it. Thanks to everyone involved from purchase to installation. The boys and girls went straight onto the c2k Newsdesk and looked up an article about marine litter as part of their ‘Rescue at Sea’ topic. Lots of topic artwork continued with a few more felt sea creatures being sewn along the way too.

For ‘Grow in Love’ they explored the story of Jairus’ daughter.

Spellings this week focused on ‘air’, ‘ere’ eir’ and ‘are’ sound patterns with a lovely scaffolded text piece called ‘My fair haired teddy bear’.

Numeracy was all about Subtraction this week as P4 revised lots of subtraction words like take away, decrease, less than, fewer than, reduce etc. They also learned some new strategies which will be the focus over the coming weeks. A big thank you to all parents who continue to help their children log on to Mathletics as it is really helping with Mental Maths and Problem Solving skills.

Finally, there are big days ahead for P4 tomorrow and Monday as they take on their very first Accelerated Reader quizzes. Keep reading your books really carefully and talking about them with an adult as it is all about the child's understanding and comprehension of what they have read in their reading books during the quizzes. Good luck everyone! You can do it! 📖🌟
