P4 Outdoor & Indoor Learning!🌟

7th May 2025

To celebrate ‘Outdoor Classroom Day’ this week, P4 enjoyed lots of time in the beautiful sunshine searching for bugs and beasts using an array of tools including magnifying glasses, butterfly nets, binoculars, forks, trowels and tubs. They found and identified spiders, woodlice, ants, slugs, snails and beetles. They discussed their habitats as they searched in dry soil, below bushes, in our minibeast hotel, under rocks and logs. They even spotted a few little bites out of their sunflower, corn and spinach plants possibly made by a few hungry caterpillars. The class also took time to examine the progress of their plants and agreed that their peas and beans are doing very well and are almost ready for their training trellis. They watered and dead-headed the flowers in their flower buckets so that they will grow taller and stronger. They examined and followed compass directions too as they made their way through all our areas. Much fun was had as they worked out which way was North, South, West and East. Such wonderful outdoor learning!

This week, the boys and girls took part in ‘Revision of Division’ lessons including division with remainders. They were very quick to notice that their multiplication tables are connected to and important for division. They also completed some tricky word problems where they had to use their RUCSAC strategy to read and work out whether they had to add, subtract, multiply or divide. Solving word problems highlights the importance of knowing, understanding and applying the correct mathematical language and concepts to a range of one step, two step and even three step problems. Again, 'Maths Talk' at home and in school proving invaluable in this area.

There was more work on Holy Communion Art, prayers and responses. Some children helped to set up a May Altar to celebrate Mary in the P4 classroom.

Teamwork has been high on the agenda as the children worked together on Lego constructions, Mathletics, reading, phonics as well as Lion King and Holy Communion rehearsals. What a busy class! Well done everyone!🌟
