P4 More Problem Solvers!

18th Oct 2022

As we begin Maths Week P4 have had lots of fun solving all sorts of mathematical problems. First they revisited ‘RUCSAC’ and remembered how important it is to read each question, to try and understand what is being asked, to choose what to do, to solve it, answer it and finally check it. Such a lot of steps to help develop Problem Solving skills! Then they looked at lots of different calculations and figured out that lots of them were connected in some sort of numerical way. They looked for patterns. They moved the same numbers around creating lots of different sums! They changed the symbols from + to - and adjusted the answers accordingly. They recorded their work on wipeable digit cards and in their books. They looked at ‘Problem Solving Strategy Posters’ and found lots more ways to help organise their thinking, working out and recording of Maths.

During Maths Week they also examined ‘Maths in Art’ with a study of the famous artist Piet Mondrian and his use of shape with primary colours. Mrs O’Neill can’t wait to see the finished display. She is also looking forward to totalling up the number of bronze and silver Mathletics certificates at the end of the week so keep up the fantastic work everyone!
