P4 Loving Learning!🌟📚

21st Sep 2023

Such a busy week in P4 with lots of fantastic learning in school and at home. Maths really was the focus as the boys and girls delved into lots of ‘Mental Maths’ strategies and learned how to deal with vertical addition using a textbook for the very first time. We think that you will be impressed with the outcome as managing a textbook, an exercise book and problem solving all at the same time is quite a difficult skill for little children to master. Mrs O’Neill was very impressed with the listening, following instructions and presentation of work.

Literacy took the form of working on the ‘er’, ‘ir’, ‘or’ and ‘ur’ spelling sounds with a little bit more proof reading of our Procedural Writing piece on ‘Building a model Lighthouse’.

During WAU, the class investigated the effect of pollution on our waterways and enjoyed reading about Lough Neagh on the c2k news desk.

The School Council speeches took place this week too. Well done to Lucy and Jack who will represent P4.

The ‘Grow in Love’ programme was all about the sacrament of Baptism. The boys and girls shared stories of baptisms they had attended and watched a lovely video about ‘Rory’s Baptism’.

On Thursday, Peggy provided a Judo taster session much to the delight of everyone and then it was off to choir in the chapel.

P4 wish Ciara Mageean all the very best with her homecoming celebrations on Sunday. They made amazing posters and enjoyed flying their flags for Portaferry too. Well done everyone!
