P4 Literacy and Numeracy🌟
Primary Four have been working hard to achieve their Literacy and Numeracy targets for 2025. This year for Literacy, the whole school was tasked with working on Comprehension. Everyone focused on the 'Super Six Comprehension Strategies' of Making Connections, Predicting, Questioning, Monitoring, Visualising and Summarising. During daily class Literacy activities, discussions and their homelink reading scheme, the children explored all areas. We hope that you agree that the written comprehension pieces below show just how far P4 have come in terms of using a textbook, reading the piece of text, finding the correct information and recording it in an organised, independent way. P4 have also excelled at accessing Accelerated Reader on the school computers, chromebooks and Ipads. They completed many AR comprehension quizzes to a very high standard.
Mrs O’Neill really hopes that all of the class sign up for ‘The Big Summer Read’ which launches on 27/6/25 at Portaferry Library. There will be lots of fun reading challenges and learning opportunities for the children to complete with many events to attend within the library during June, July and August.
Mathletics will continue to be available in June, July and August. The children have been encouraged to complete all their ‘Skill Quests’ for P4 prior to entering P5. There are so many wonderful facets to Mathletics which will help all areas of Numeracy and Mathematics development with many downloadable booklets to support and challenge each child in every topic.
As this is the last week of written homework for P4, they have been asked to return their blue New Wave English and Maths textbooks in their homework packs on Friday. The children have also been encouraged to keep spelling, reading and accessing Mathletics until the end of term and over the holidays to help maintain standards and routine. Keep up the great work P4!🌟
