P4 Internet Safety🌟💻
Primary Four have been learning about Internet Safety this week. Aodhan and Eoghan; the P4 Digital Leaders introduced the lesson in class with a wonderful child friendly PowerPoint which brought about lots of group discussions on the positives and negatives of using the internet with a special focus on AI. The boys and girls loved that they can use the internet for their learning, for movies and for fun games but they were quite surprised that children are not allowed to use WhatsApp, Tik Tok or Instagram until they are 13 years old with some platforms and games not accessible until you are 16 or 18 years old. They also began to understand that the internet can at times be unreliable, scary and that it is so important to have parental controls and especially parental supervision when using devices at home. They looked at how to stay safe whilst on the internet and talked about the need to use the SMART strategy to stay SAFE, not MEET up with anyone, not ACCEPT a message from an unknown source, not RELY on information to always be true on the internet and finally to TELL an adult if anything on the internet makes them feel worried or uncomfortable. Parents, we hope you will continue to discuss Internet Safety with your child throughout the year and view lots of the Internet Safety resources on BBC Bitesize ‘Safer Internet Day 2026’ with them.
