P4 Cross-Curricular Shape Work๐ŸŒŸ

29th Jan 2024

As well as learning their Times Tables and using Mathletics regularly, P4 have been busy learning about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. As part of their WAU topic ‘Castles’, they examined the artwork of Swiss artist Paul Klee. This artist produced many abstract pieces including one called ‘Castle and Sun’. The children loved his use of bright colours and geometric shapes. They produced their own versions using pencils, coloured pencils and collage. Following this, the boys and girls sorted lots of 2D and 3D shapes, talked about their names, matched them to their labels, discussed numbers of faces, edges and vertices. They also unwrapped some of our 3D shapes and investigated the net of each shape. ‘Shape’ is a whole school focus at the moment. Our ‘New Wave’ Maths series contains lots of Maths facts including those on ‘Shape’ which can be learned by all the children. Teachers have also assigned lots of Mathletics activities including those for ‘Shape’ which can be accessed by everyone at home. Keep up the super work P4!๐ŸŒŸ
