P4 celebrate Earth Day! 🌎
On Wednesday 22nd April, P4 celebrated Earth Day by beginning their World Around Us ‘Gardening’ topic. They researched using an array of fact books based on gardening, vegetables, healthy eating, flowers and trees. Then they read the instructions on seed packets and planted tomato, strawberry, onion, bean, radish, coriander seeds and garlic bulbs in their classroom area. They will nurture them and watch them grow over the next few weeks.
Mrs O’Neill and Miss McCarthy took the class outside to deadhead their daffodils and plant nasturtium seeds in their flower buckets for the summer growing season. They mixed topsoil with compost and planted lots of new seeds in the planters too. They all went up to the school’s rewilding area where they dispersed lots of wildflower seeds which will attract lots of bees and butterflies.
Finally, the class were in awe of a special delivery of tiny little caterpillars which are making their home for now in The Ash class. P4 can’t wait to get together with The Ash class to see the caterpillars grow and change into beautiful butterflies. They know the butterflies will definitely love the amazing wildflowers which will appear soon too!
Happy Earth Day everyone! There are many suggestions of ways you can celebrate Earth Day this week at home in the photographs below.🌍
