P4 blast into 2023!

9th Jan 2023

P4 welcomed in 2023 in style last week in school with a look at the c2K Newsdesk 2023 stories, videos and podcasts. They also enjoyed a fabulous performance of ‘Cinderella’ at The Grand Opera House in Belfast and continued their work this week by examining details on the cast and the stage production as they completed wonderful reviews and recounts based on the show. It was also back to spellings with the ‘u’ sound made using u, ou, o and oo in their Linguistic Phonics programme.

Numeracy this week is all about a brand new P4 Maths topic... Multiplication! The boys and girls completed lots of practical multiplication work in class using lots of sets of, groups of, teams of etc before the words ‘times’ and ‘multiply’ were introduced. They enjoyed looking at the large classroom ‘Multiplication Monsters’ and have smaller copies home with them to learn the various sets of tables each week until the half term break. Lots of ‘To do’ activities have  been put on Mathletics to help the children count forwards and backwards in lots of sets too.

For ‘Grow in Love’ the children have been learning about bible stories especially David and Goliath. They found it interesting that David was able to overcome his fear of Goliath in lots of ways. They are also learning lots of prayers and responses in preparation for very special masses in the near future.

During WAU they were introduced to their topic of ‘Castles’ where they will investigate imaginary fairytale castles, real local castles and create their own techno castles through ICT coding activities.

What a busy class and what a busy few months ahead. Keep up the great work at home and in school P4. Mrs O'Neill is the proud teacher of such a hard working class who have so many wonderful things ahead of them for 2023.
