P4 ‘Activity Based Learning’ 🌟
In P4, we cater for all types of learners in a vast array of ways; always encouraging, supporting and inspiring as we work through a broad and balanced curriculum. This week, the children have been scientists, engineers, artists, meteorologists, mathematicians and readers of many different genres of books.
During Numeracy, they focused on the 4x tables; from the practical use of 4 sets of different amounts of cubes to investigating what ‘inverse’ and ‘product’ mean to using the Smartboard to visually see and manipulate 4 sets, also listening and singing 4x tables songs, using Mathletics and completing a ‘Self-Assessment’ 4x table booklet. They also investigated the properties of 2D shapes using our new ‘Sensory Shape’ pack.
Literacy has been all about phonics this week with the ‘L’ sound at the forefront. The children completed sound sorting activities, anagrams, word searches and spelling grids to aid retention of important words. They also continued with their Collins New Treasure House factual comprehension work.
‘Grow in Love’ brought discussions about Jesus and his apostle friends and how we will be preparing for Lent soon. The children produced some great artwork based on Jesus and the apostles sharing a very special meal.
Our new WAU topic ‘Whatever the Weather’ is coming along nicely as the children investigated why the indoor plants were much taller than the outdoor plants and came to the conclusion that the weather had a big effect on outdoor plant growth! The class can’t wait to set up their P4 Weather Stations in their outdoor learning area.
After all the hard work this week, the class relaxed with some mindful music and movement using lots of quiet tabletop activities. Well done P4! Keep up the fantastic work!🌟
