P4, A Great Start To November!🌟
Primary Four returned to school today after the half-term break, full of energy and ready to read, write, discuss, problem-solve and draw. During Literacy, they explored the ‘oo’ sound made using o, oo, u, ew, ue, ui and ough in phonics. They also enjoyed delving into their new class chapter, picture and audio book; ‘The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark’. They discussed the author, illustrator, chapters, adjectives and capitalisation. They enjoyed predicting and analysing the text. They really liked that it was set initially at Halloween with lots of fireworks and as the story progresses, the setting changes to frosty rooftops near Christmas time. The children enjoyed creating their very own ‘Owl Artwork’ to accompany the upcoming display and workbook activities.
For Numeracy, the focus in P4 is definitely ‘Subtraction’. It is very important that the boys and girls continue to work on simple subtraction bonds ‘in their heads’, ‘using counters’, ‘using number lines’ and ‘on paper’ at home. Today, they learned a new strategy for vertical subtraction of two 2digit numbers. They are learning a little ‘Subtraction Poem’ to help them remember all the steps. A copy of the ‘Subtraction Poem’ has been sent home alongside the P4 Nov/Dec Newsletter.
All this wonderful learning bodes well for another fantastic half-term. Well done P4!🌟
