Today in Primary 1 all the boys and girls got to help with making their snack. This was an opportunity for some science discussion about heating and materials changing as well as an introduction to Procedural Writing; knowing about listing equipment and following a sequence of instructions. We checked we had all of the ingredients and equipment, and then the children got to smell and feel the white bread, describing it as soft and squishy and a little bit crumby. Afterwards we took the bread and put it in the toaster, discussing the numbers on the machine and how the red light came on when it was cooking. We got rumbles in our tummies when it started to smell like toast. All of the children were very patient waiting for their slice, as the toaster made 4 at a time. They had to follow instructions on buttering their toast and some children cut their slice in half as well. Finally, the best bit of munching it up. The bread wasn't soft and squishy any more, it was hot and hard and darker and very crumbly....also very yummy! Well done P1!
