Outdoor Fun in the Sun

23rd Apr 2026

Our outdoor play area was alive with laughter, creativity and meaningful learning as P1 pupils enjoyed a wonderful play session alongside their P7 buddies. The children’s language development flourished as they talked, planned, negotiated roles and shared ideas, while their imaginations took centre stage in a rich and engaging environment. It was a joy to see friendships strengthening naturally through play as the older pupils guided, encouraged and collaborated with their younger partners.

A highlight of the session was the bustling family‑run restaurant in the mud kitchen, where the menu featured sloppy joes, pizza and many other “delicious” treats. Nothing was left to chance – a dedicated Health and Safety Officer even visited to inspect standards, award a star rating and ensure the highest quality of food was being served! Nearby, another group established "The Cool Shop", proudly advertising its tagline, “Too cool for school”. As play developed, these two worlds cleverly combined, with the shop supplying ingredients to the restaurant, demonstrating excellent problem‑solving, cooperation and imaginative thinking.

There was also plenty of physical play, supporting gross motor development and sheer fun, with tyres being rolled, climbed and explored, chalk used to design and decorate the area, and an old sand tray ingeniously transformed into a bath. The P1 and P7 children truly had the best of times, and the collaboration between them was beautiful to witness—especially poignant on the day before the P7 pupils make their Confirmation. It was a memorable session filled with joy, creativity and the kind of learning that really lasts.
