Maths Week in Nursery

20th Oct 2021

We have been completing quite a few maths activities this week.  We had Number Ducks in our water tray.  We had to fish these out with nets and then see if we knew the number on the bottom of the duck.  If we got stuck, we could count the spots on its back to help us.  We also had big Click shapes on the mat.  We love using the square and triangle shapes to make different creations and this week we made tunnels, houses, pyramids and a really big tower.  Mrs Birt was very impressed with our teamwork and problem solving skills, especially when we couldn’t reach the top anymore and decided to lay the tower down on the mat to keep adding to it! Our sand tray had lots of Halloween objects in it.  There were great discussions about how the sand made the pots feel heavier and when we emptied them out, they were light again.  We also used tweezers to collect spiders and loved counting how many each person was able to get.  We were building towers with lots of different sizes of rectangles.  We also had some tricky Halloween puzzles to complete.  There was pattern work going on too with colourful beads and wonderful creations with our magnetic shapes!
