Maths Week in Ash Class
15th Oct 2025
For Maths Week, the children in the Ash Class have been working on their nursery rhymes and how they develop children's numeracy skills. Firstly, the children have been using ‘Hickory Dickory Dock’ to understand and learn all about time, as well as making clock faces with hula hoops. We then explored ‘12345 once I caught a fish alive’, by ordering numbers 1-20 and skip counting in twos, fives, and tens. To further develop their problem-solving skills, the children were then set a challenge to create a stool for Miss Muffet to sit on. They had to explore the best height and angle for Miss Muffet to eat her porridge and then construct a stool from their plans. This ‘Thinking through Play’ activity allowed for the children to problem solve with a maths focus.
