Make, Bake,Grow and Learn Challenge!

4th May 2020

Today we begin with a little 'Baker' and a little 'Maker'. Keelan (P4) had a wonderful time at the weekend finding a recipe on his laptop for a banana loaf. He watched a video from the 'BBC Good Food' website while baking so that he could follow the instructions in the correct order. He had great fun measuring the ingredients, mixing and baking and even had time to write out the recipe. He delivered his banana loaf to his Granny Kate and left it on her doorstep as a surprise for a very special birthday. A lovely thought Keelan! Ava (P3) was busy 'Making' her very own homemade car using items found around her house. Great recycling Ava!

As part of our 'Grow' challenge Eva-Marie (P5) and Isla (P1) would like to wish all of the Saint Mary's family a 'Happy May'. They picked some flowers from their garden for Our Lady and Saint Anne, her mother and teacher. They are thinking about everyone and sent a lovely message, 'God bless and may the April showers bring forth lots of planting, growing and May flowers.' Beautiful words girls! Donal (P6) was busy helping out in his garden today too by tending to the flowers and pots. Great work Donal. Aoibhinn (P2) and her Mum were busy planting up new flower boxes and her very own Azaleas. She says that she is watering them everyday and they are growing well. Mrs Breen has also been very busy in her garden. Lots of flower and vegetable seeds have been planted and she has so many that she is now looking for a greenhouse for her yard. Brilliant!

May is such a beautiful month and Mrs O'Neill has included a very special photo from the O'Neill family album taken a few years ago. It's a family favourite taken in Portaferry's 'Bluebell Woods'. They continue to enjoy walks here and love that the bluebells continue to bloom at this time every year.

It would also be remiss not to mention all the gardening helpers that we have had at Saint Mary's over the past few years. Thank you to our staff, School council, Eco-Council, our PSG, our Summer Project Group, artists and 'Portaferry in Bloom'. Together they had planned another big community event but it was not to be... Instead we have the most wonderful 'Make, Bake, Grow and Learn' challenges happening in homes and gardens. We look forward to seeing lots more 'Grow' photos throughout the week. Keep sending them to aoneill392@c2kni.net
