United Against Bullying

14th Nov 2022

To begin our Anti Bullying week in school, all pupils were encouraged to come to school in odd socks to promote and encourage diversity and help celebrate the uniqueness of each individual person. Today at a specially convened Assembly, we made one long chain of pupils to represent St Mary's PS, made from all of the classes. This portrayed our united approach to addressing bullying,  and ensuring that it will not be accepted within our school.

At this Assembly Mrs Dorrian introduced the theme of this year's Anti Bullying Week as "Reach Out." The pupils watched a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2aXKg_-NbM and we dicussed the different ways on how bullying can affects our lives and can leave us feeling hopeless. It was highlighted that it doesn’t have to be this way. If we challenge bullying type behaviour, we can change it. And it starts by reaching out. Whether it’s in school, at home, in the community or online, let’s reach out and show each other the support we need. Reach out to someone you trust if you need to talk. Reach out to someone you know if they are being bullied. Reach out and consider a new approach.

The pupils then watched this years "Calling Out" Song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNR2eyOzLKw and some of our pupils joined in with the dancing.

Throughout this week we have a number of activities and lessons planned to help us address bullying and ensure that it has no place within our school. It starts with our annual Homework Poster competition where P3/4/5/6/7 are challenged to create a poster, at home.  the winning posters will be put on display around our school to remind us all about our role in addressing bullying type behaviours. Stay tuned to our website for more updates throughout this week.
