Well-being Wednesday - 3rd March

2nd Mar 2021

Boys, girls and parents as we embark on a new month and a new season, we also begin a new area of our WRAP Wellbeing Project. During the month of March we ask you to think about and consider the themes of ‘Growth and Growth Mindset’. Growth takes place in so many ways; physically, emotionally and spiritually.

During this beautiful new season of Spring, take a walk together as a family. Parents, be aware of what is changing around you, talk about and show your children; the growth in our green spaces, the weather becoming more settled and warmer, the bird song and most of all the sense of re-birth and hope that continues to gently blossom all around. Children enjoy the changes, look forward to getting outdoors in a safe way. Maybe take your pedometer and enjoy counting your steps as you are mindful of all the beauty that is in Portaferry and its surrounding areas. During this time, we also think about Lent and our spiritual growth. The chapels are open for private prayer. A family visit to the chapel or to the grotto for a little prayer will help you  feel re-connected as we look forward with HOPE to Easter. This week we also celebrate ‘World Book Day’ and what better way to relax and be mindful than with a good book. Be thankful for all that is good in our homes, our parish and in our world.

Don’t forget to fill in your Gratitude Journals and to assist with our theme of ‘Growth and Growth Mindset’ this month we have a introductory Growth Mindset Statements poster. Use the statements to discuss how our words impact our mindset. Some suggestions of how to use these statements include;

  1. Cover the part under "I Can Say" and only show the part where it says "Instead of."
  2. Ask you child how they can change each statement from negative to positive and empowering.
  3. Go down the list and write your child's suggestions on a separate piece of paper.
