Measures

5th Feb 2020

In mathematics P6 are looking at measures and how to use the most appropriate unit of measurement for length.

As a class we selected some things we could firstly estimate and then measure.  The children had to decide what unit of measurement was best for each estimate.

The children wanted to estimate and measure the length of the playground and the perimeter around the school.  These produced some of the more interesting estimates from 1km to 5km.

The children were shown how to use a trundle wheel correctly and they measured each.  They discovered the playground was approximately 50m and the school perimeter was 329m, this gave them a greater understanding of the concept of a kilometre.
