Maths Week in Nursery

19th Oct 2022

We have been working hard on problem solving activities in nursery this week.  We had lots of shape magnets on the board and we were asked to make them in to something.  We used the shapes really well and had great imaginations!  At the Construction Area, we had different shaped blocks.  We had to try and make a tower.  We had to really think about which blocks went on top of each other as some of them didn’t work well together and made our tower collapse!  Our Teddy Bear Jigsaws were used to copy patterns.  We got a card with the bears wearing different outfits and we had to see if we could match it on our board.  The bears were all different sizes so there was lots of use of mathematical language too!  The Wedgits were on the mat and we used these to make different creations.  We had to think about which shapes fit best together.  There was super sorting going on too.  A box of coloured animals and matching coloured bowls gave the children the task of sorting them out into the correct places.  Lots of concentration and some very proud boys and girls when they got all the animals into their correct bowls.  Another problem solving activity was our Halloween Matching Pairs Game.  All the cards were face down and we had to turn two over at a time to see if we could find a pair.  We quickly realised we had to concentrate and pay very close attention to each person’s go.  We then had to try and remember where they where for our turn.  Great work boys and girls!
