Ciara Mageean

28th Sep 2022

We were honoured that Ciara Mageean spent the day in our school today and took her time to speak with all of our pupils and staff.

The day began with Ciara challenging us all to take part in a paced 'Daily Mile.' She started by getting us all to stretch and warm up in the school yard and she then set a pace for us all to follow. The rain did not deter us and thankfully all of our pupils made it round the circuit safely.

Ciara then held a whole school Assembly and told us all about the importance of following your dreams and that each one of us have talents and abilities and to always strive to be the best person you can. She then took a number of tough questions from each of the classes. Everyone present sat in amazement and awe of Ciara as she took her time to answer each of these questions. Ciara then showed us all her Commonwealth and European medals but she quickly realised that she couldn't get round everyone present in the hall to allow them to hold these medals and she suggested that she would visit each class individually and this is what she did.

In each of our classes Ciara allowed each child to hold her medals and again she took time to answer any of the questions the pupils had. In total Ciara spend the whole day in our school, something she reminded us all she had not done since she left our school in Primary 7.

We are very appreciative of the time Ciara gives back to our school and she is a truely inspirational and wonderful person. We will not forget the time we spent with Ciara and we thank her for always being a great ambassador for the people and town of Portaferry.  We are already looking forward to her next visit and hopefully with more medals to show us.
